PETE LEONARD | COACH & ATHLETIC DIRECTOR | INDUCTED: SEPTEMBER 12, 2009


Over a sixteen year span, Pete coached Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country, Track, Girls’ Varsity Basketball and Boys’ Varsity Basketball.

Pete is a graduate of Pfeiffer College in North Carolina where he played both baseball and soccer and was an All-Carolina Conference and All-South fullback in his senior season. Pete spent seven years teaching and coaching at Steinert High School before coming to Nottingham where he taught health and physical education and served as department chair. As Basketball coach, Pete was named the Trentonian’s Boys’ Coach of the Year after the 1986-1987 season. Following the 1995-1996 season, Pete was awarded the Golden Wave’s Club Rev. Clarence O’Shea Award and was also named both The Times and The Trentonian’s Coach of the Year. Pete also was named Cross Country Coach of the Year in 1989 and 1992.

In 1998, Pete was named Nottingham's athletic director, a position he held until his retirement in 2004. During his tenure as athletic director, he was a highly regarded mentor to the Northstar coaching staff.
