BARRY BURTNETT | SPECIAL CONTRIBUTOR | INDUCTED: SEPTEMBER 12, 2014 Barry Burntett was elected to the Nottingham Athletic Hall of Fame for his development of the first sports medicine curriculum in Hamilton Township, initiating the first student trainers program at Nottingham, and his assistance in working with the wrestling coaches at Nottingham and Steinert. Barry graduated from Bedford High School in Bedford, PA, where he became an outstanding wrestler. He earned his BS degree from Lock Haven University and an M.Ed in Guidance from Shippensburg University. From 1961 through 1978, he served as a head wrestling coach at Dormont High School, Mechanicsburg High School, and Rider University, where he earned his Administrative and Supervisory Certification. In ten years at the helm of the Rider College, Burtnett's Broncs posted a 94-34-2 record, including an undefeated season in 1973-74. It was at Rider where Barry instituted its first full-time Sports Medicine program. For 25 years, Barry officiated wrestling matches in PA and NJ on the high school and college levels. He has made significant contributions in organizing wrestling tournaments and serving as director of four East Coast Conference Championships (NCAA). As a clinician, he has worked at various camps during the summer and has spoken at numerous high school affairs, civic clubs, and sports medicine workshops. He also co-founded the NJ Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. For 9 years, he was Director of the NJSIAA District 25 Wrestling Championships. Barry is a member of the Rider University HOF and the NJ Chapter of the National Wrestling HOF.
