JACK M. BELL | COACH | INDUCTED: SEPTEMBER 30, 2011 Jack Bell played soccer basketball at Hamilton West and was the first player to score 1,000 points in basketball (1965). He was also the first Mercer County basketball player to score 50 points in a single game. In soccer, he was named to the All-State, All-Mercer County and All-city first teams, leading the county in goals with 27 in 1964. He continued his athletic success at Trenton State College when TSC became the 1965 NAIA National Soccer Champions under coach Mel Schmidt, and Jack was selected first team All Tournament. In basketball, he again was a 1,000 point scorer. When Nottingham became a high school in 1982, Jack Bell was called upon to develop the first varsity soccer program after a very successful soccer coaching career at Hamilton West including a NJ State Group IV Championship in 1976. The Northstars' 1986 team proved to be the fruits of his labor as he led the Northstars to a record-high 15-3-4 season and their first Mercer County Championship and their FIRST Central Jersey Group III title. He had a group of dedicated and hard-working athletes, whose friendship he still treasures today. From 1989-2000, Jack coached at Steinert HS and led the 1993 team to a Mercer County Championship. Jack was recognized as the Coach of the Year by The Trentonian (1980), The Times (1976), and the Ancient Order of Hibernians (1986). Jack was inducted into the Trenton State College Hall of Fame (1997), the Hamilton High West Hall of Fame (1999), and the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame (1999). Jack retired from teaching after 34 years in Hamilton Township.
